I love to teach meteorology, and one of the coolest ways I’ve been able to reach students from all over the world is through Google Hangouts and Skype! Years ago, I started Ask-A-Meteorologist at the National Weather Center and was able to reach schools in Oklahoma and neighboring states. I was able to expand my reach by partnering with Tim Brice and Jason Laney (NWS El Paso), who were also using Google Hangouts and Skype for Ask-A-Meteorologist and Weather Basics, to join them and other National Weather Service Forecast Offices during these groupchats. Together, we have reached thousands of students in almost every state in the U.S. as well as other countries!
I am also part of the Skype-A-Scientist community as well! If you’d like to set up a Google Hangout or Skype session, click the link and search my name (Patrick Hyland) or by profession (meteorologist) to set up a groupchat to have your weather questions answered!
